Yarra Bend Golf has reopened its 14th tee after redesign and construction.
Leading Melbourne public golf course, Yarra Bend Golf, has recently reopened its 14th tee and ‘Neighbours’ star Travis Burns was there for the opening.
After extensive work resulting from an overall audit completed of the facility three years ago the need to reconstruct was driven by several factors including trees that housed a famous bat colony encroached on the line of play.
Yarra Bend Golf Ambassador, Neighbours star, Travis Burns who is a passionate supporter of Yarra Bend Golf helped open the new tee and was the first to hit off on Saturday November 5th.
Yarra Bend Golf course consultants Ogilvy, Clayton, Cocking & Mead with course superintendent, Tim Bunn reviewed the site and discussed shaping and the over flow from the 13th fairway and green to the 14th tee. Horticulture turf management students from Melbourne Polytech, which is located next to the course, were invited to participate in the reconstruction giving them the ability to learn new construction practices on site.
The tee space has been more than tripled which allows for greater variety in how the hole can be played and the ability for turf recovery.
“Yarra Bend Golf is in for an exciting time with work to improve the course continuing,” Yarra Bend Golf General Manager, Barnaby Stevenson said.
“Up next is proposed joint construction planned for the 13th men’s tee as well as proposed 19th hole/ shorts game area. This follows on from a large amount of works done in the past three years in order to improve the golfing experience including renovations on 27 bunkers, new practice green construction at 1st tee and renovation of 9 tees.”
The par 70, 18-hole golf course has long been regarded as Melbourne’s premier public-access course. Surrounded by the Yarra River, golfers take in botanic views on every hole, with the city skyline in view on most holes. Recent investment in this wonderful asset and the rejuvenation taking place at Yarra Bend Golf has seen a rapid transformation into a Golfing ‘Super Center’ and home’ of the world’s most awarded golf coaching team – BannLynch Golf.
