World Cup of Golf will be played at Kingston Heath in November

The World Cup of Golf returns to Australia in November and it will revert back to a team only format.

The PGA Tour have announced that the World Cup of Golf will be played on November 24 – 27 at Melbourne’s famous Kingston Heath Golf Club. The announcement also confirmed that the tournament will return to the two-man team format (no individual title), with an US$8 million purse and a field featuring teams from 28 countries.

PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem’s words from the official press release:

“The World Cup of Golf has a long and storied history as one of the true international events in our sport,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “On behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours, we are thrilled that a course with the reputation and standing such as Kingston Heath will serve as the tournament’s host venue in 2016. The fans in the Sandbelt region of Australia are some of the best in the world and our players consider themselves extremely fortunate every time they are able to play in an event of this stature in the Melbourne area. Our thanks go out to the Victorian Government for their partnership in both the past and future events.”

After a year’s hiatus it’s not only nice to see the World Cup of Golf back on the calendar but back to the unique team format. The 2016 tournament will return to a 72-hole, stroke play, two-man team event format. The first and third days of competition will be the foursomes (alternate shot) format and the second and final days are fourball (best ball) play.

This will be the fifth time the tournament will be played in Australia by the first time it will beheld at a course other than Royal Melbourne. Time to block out that week of the calendar and get yourself to Melbourne. If you’re not there already.
