Sergio Garcia makes hole-in-one at island-green 17th at TPC Sawgrass: video

Sergio Garcia is on a roll right now, making a hole-in-one during his first round at THE PLAYERS Championship.

Sergio Garcia got the crowd on their feet today after making a hole-in-one on one of golf’s most iconic holes, the par-3 17th at TPC Sawgrass.

After a poor opening nine of THE PLAYERS Championship, Garcia made birdie at the par-5 16th and then holed a 52-degree wedge to get himself back in the tournament, finishing with a 1-over par 73.

“It was a solid 52-degree (wedge) for me. I mean, I hit a good shot, but it can go there, it can go three yards past. I don’t know, it can do anything,” Garcia said.

“It was nice to see it bounce and kind of spin back into the hole. Maybe because I needed it after the start I had. It kind of made quite a poor round into — not a great round but a decent round.”

After taking part in the celebration, Adam Scott was next to hit and as tournament leader by one, the crowd expected big things. But a slight mis-hit saw Scott’s ball find the water and a double-bogey followed. Another double at the 18th meant Scott slipped back into a tie for 18th place at the end of round one.
