Price replaces Norman as Presidents Cup captain

Three-time major winner Nick Price will captain the International Team at the Presidents Cup in 2013.

Nick Price has been appointed captain of the Internatiaonl Team for The Presidents Cup to be played at Muirfield Village, in Columbis Ohio in 2013. Despite Norman expressing his interest in staying in the role he has been over-looked in favour of the three-time major champion from Zimbabwe.

“This has been a moment that I’ve been waiting for an awful long time,” Price said. “It’s probably the most excited I’ve been about anything in the last five or six years. This is a huge honor, and I’m very, very excited about it.”

This is a good appointment and will inject some new enthusiasm into the team. While Norman did a reasonable job and brought lots of publicity to the event, some of his captain’s picks have been questioned after the poor performances of his Australian picks last year.

The International Team lost for the fourth consecutive time at Royal Melbourne last November. The defeat gave the United States team a seventh Presidents Cup victory over the Internationals to go along with the tie in South Africa in 2003. The lone victory by the International team came at Royal Melbourne in 1998.
The PGA Tour who control most of what goes on at the Presidents Cup, also re-appointed Fred Couples as captain of the United states team for the third consecutive time. Couples took over the captaincy from Jack Nicklaus in 2007 and the team is yet to  who lose under his watch.
The Presidents Cup will be played at Muirfield Village, columbis, Ohio from September 30 – October 6, 2013.
