Greg Norman got a framed shirt from his mum on his 60th birthday

Greg Norman turned 60 last month and his mum gave him an old golf shirt. A famous one at that.

There is a great story over at the Golf SA website about the 60th birthday present that Greg Norman received from his mum.

Greg’s mother, Toini Norman still had the green shirt that he wore when he won his first professional tournament, The West Lakes Classic on the East Course at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide.

It was just Norman’s fourth professional start and after a few top-10 finishes he became an overnight celebrity by just holding on to his big lead, beating David Graham and Graham Marsh for his first title.

A now defunct magazine, SA Golfer adorned the front cover of their next issue with an image of Norman and it was this photo that Mrs Norman wanted a copy of to place along side the framed shirt.

The piece quotes Mrs Norman as saying:

“We had given the shirt and pictures to Greg’s wife Kirsten on the quiet, when Greg and Kirsten were here just before Christmas, and Kirsten had it framed over there. It was only delivered to the house while I was there the day before Greg’s birthday on the 10th. Yes he did like it, was tickled pink in fact, if you don’t mind me putting it like that.” Mrs Norman explained.
